Beaches south of Vieste
The beach Scialara also called Pizzomunno or the castle is one of the most famous beaches of Vieste, located just outside of the village. The beach gets its name from the impressive and famous white limestone monolith about 25 metres, which stands at the beginning of the beach called Pizzomunno. The White beach is characterized by a beautiful coastline of fine golden sand along about 3 kilometers, well equipped and bathed in a blue, crystal clear, with sandy bottoms and sloping, ideal for families and children. For Pizzomunno Vieste was a beautiful fisherman who loved madly his girlfriend named Falcone.
The legend of Pizzomunno
Every day Pizzomunno went out at Sea alone with his boat to catch fish and mermaids, everyday, waiting for him to sing their songs did but deadly.
Mermaids wanted absolutely Pizzomunno as their King and lover and offered him immortality;
but he loved madly its Pizzomunno Falcone.
Here's that one night while Falcone was waiting for Pizzomunno facing the sea, mermaids emerged from the water, dragged him into the sea and attacked Falcone.
Pizzomunno after hearing the screams of Falcone rushed for help, but the next day the fishermen found Pizzomunno petrified.
The legend tells that every hundred years, for one night, the beautiful Falcone emerges from the depths of the sea and meets up with his beloved Pizzomunno.
The Portonuovo beach is situated 4.5 km south of Vieste and accessible along the provincial road 53 for the morning. The beach owes its name to the Saracen Watchtower there, although many people say that the name is inspired by the cat-shaped island that stands out in front of the lido. When the tide is low and when the sea is calm, you can get to swimming on the island that becomes a destination for romantic getaways. Baia di Campi
The beach of Baia di Campi di Vieste is located 10 Km away from Vieste towards Morning along the road Proviciale 53. This is a beautiful pebble and shingle pristine charm and wild. The shoreline is quite wide and 400 metres long, in front of which stands the homonymous islet that protects the sea currents. All around impressive steep cliffs surrounded by pines and many caves to explore. The sea is beautiful, blue, clear and transparent, with gravel bottoms and high side, ideal for swimming and underwater fishing, less ideal for families and children. The beach is accessible by a steep and narrow lane scendendendo has some facilities with the possibility to rent Paddle boats.
Greek port Bay
The Greek port Bay is located 14 Km from Vieste to Morning and can be reached by following first the County Road 53 and then onto County Road 54 linking Vieste to Pugnochiuso. To reach it, you must leave the car on the road and walk down a dirt road, which presents some difficulty. This is a beautiful Bay with a beach of pebbles, solitary and pristine wild charm, all surrounded by towering limestone cliffs overhanging the sea and near vegetation of pines. The sea is crystal clear, limpid and bright blue, with high waters, ideal for swimming and underwater fishing, less ideal for families with children. The beach is completely devoid of amenities, so you need to go there with you need to spend an unforgettable day in a pristine place.
Beach of Pugnochiuso
The beach is located about 19 Km from Vieste and Pugnochiuso is reachable following before the County Road 53 and then onto County Road 54 linking Vieste to Pugnochiuso. The beach is accessible only by tourist facility from which it takes its name. Pebble Beach is 350 metres long, lonely and wild charm, surrounded by dense Mediterranean vegetation. The sea is lovely, with shades from blue to turquoise, crystalline and high waters, ideal for swimming and bathing, less suitable for children. Flat Port Beach
The Flat is located at Harbor Beach 2o Km from Vieste and is reached by taking the main road 53 first and then onto County Road 54 linking Vieste to Pugnochiuso. It is a small and beautiful beach of white pebbles mixed with sand, beautifully wild, adorned by rugged cliffs and lush vegetation with a rich and fragrant pines. Located in a fantastic color contrast between the white of the rocks, the blue sea and the green of the vegetation. The sea is beautiful, crystal clear waters and on the high side, ideal for swimming and explore the seabed, less suitable for children. The beach is equipped with Sun beds and umbrellas.
Cala della Pergola
The beach Cala della Pergola is located 22 Km from Vieste and is reached by taking the main road 53 first and then onto County Road 54 linking Vieste to Pugnochiuso. This is a very small pebble pristine charm and wild Cove, surrounded by high rocky cliffs covered with vegetation of pines. The beach is ideal for lovers of underwater fishing and tranquility, and can also be reached by sea for someone who owns a boat. The sea is blue, crystal clear and very clear, with ups and gravelly soils, ideal for skilful swimmers, less ideal for children and the elderly. Beaches North of Vieste
Beach of the convent or San Lorenzo
The beach of San Lorenzo or Convent of Vieste is located just outside the town, and is within easy walking distance. It is one of the largest beaches of fine golden sand, suitable for families with children. The beach of San Lorenzo or Convent is called so, because its proximity to the town of Vieste is named "the convent" and the view to the North, is called "San Lorenzo". The beaches of Punta Lunga and Padam are distant 2.9 km from Vieste and accessible along the provincial road 52 towards Peschici. The peak takes its name from the Long Beach Peninsula, both are fine sandy beaches that you forward with slight tilt in the sea with a shallow water. Access intermediate, come with bathhouse, boat rental, sailing and surfing, playground, which make them suitable for families with children. To the North you can visit the traditional trabucco and are surrounded by dense Mediterranean vegetation.
The beach Molinella is located at 4 km from Vieste and can be reached along the County Road 52 towards Peschici, about 2.7 km you enter the small road leading to the village of the same name. The beaches of Los Angeles International Airport are within 10 kilometres of Vieste and Peschici are along the provincial road to reach 52. The two beaches are composed of fine golden sand and surrounded by vegetation typical of the Mediterranean. The beaches can be accessed only from the local tourist-receptive structure.
The beach at Sfinalicchio is located 11 km from Vieste, reached along the road Provindiale 52 to Peschici. It is about two kilometres long and is quite impressive and wild, as it is surrounded by the rich and typical Mediterranean vegetation mostly comprised of aleppo pines and sand dunes. The fine golden sand beach with its shallow and sandy stretches for about 40 meters, then suitable for families with children.
